Who we are

Am I Overpaying? is operated by Rahul Janagouda, sole proprietor, Ontario, Canada. Contact: hello@amioverpaying.fyi. This sender identity and contact address will appear in the footer of every email we send, as Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires.

What we collect

Rent check: neighbourhood/city or first 3 postal characters (place search is powered by Geoapify with OpenStreetMap data; your search text goes to Geoapify but we never store a street address), unit type, bedrooms, rent as a $100 range, year moved in. No name, street address or exact rent.
Mortgage check: rate, term, fixed/variable, down payment or equity range, renewal month, lender type, remaining amortization, and balance rounded to the nearest $25,000.
Email (optional): your email address, the area you checked, and a record of your consent (time and wording).
Abuse prevention: a one-way hash of your IP address, used to limit repeat submissions. We do not store the IP itself.

Analytics

We count anonymous events (page views, searches, submissions, shares) with the referring website, campaign tags and country, but no IP address, cookies or personal data. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies or track you across sites.

How we use it

Submissions are combined into anonymous neighbourhood statistics, and a median is shown only once 5 or more entries exist. Emails are used only for the monthly update you asked for. We do not sell personal information.

Consent and unsubscribing

We email you only if you tick the consent box, in line with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribe requests are processed within 10 business days.

Storage and retention

Data is stored on our hosting provider's servers. Email addresses are deleted when you unsubscribe. Anonymous rent and mortgage entries may be kept to show trends over time.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA you can ask to see or delete your data. Contact: hello@amioverpaying.fyi.

Some links may later be affiliate links, which would earn us a commission. We will label them clearly. Benchmarks come from public sources listed on the site.
